Massimo Di Ciano, PhD

Dr. Massimo Di Ciano is the Principal Engineer at Atomic13, leading our next-gen shear extrusion tech. With a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, his career spans leadership roles at Magna International and nuclear engineering research.

Dr. Massimo Di Ciano serves as Principal Engineer at Atomic13, where he leads the technical development of the company’s next-generation shear extrusion technology. In this role, he oversees product development, process design, alloy development, factory acceptance testing, and technical strategy while working closely with equipment manufacturers, suppliers, and leadership to commercialize Atomic13’s innovative manufacturing platform. Massimo has played a central role in shaping the company’s technical roadmap, leading engineering development, coordinating patent filings, supporting investor and board communications.

Before joining Atomic13, Massimo held leadership roles in materials science and advanced manufacturing at Magna International, where he managed corporate R&D initiatives spanning metallurgy, forming technologies, tooling, and advanced manufacturing processes. Earlier in his career, he served as a Research Associate at the University of Waterloo, leading collaborative research programs in lightweight materials and metal forming and began his engineering career with Atomic Energy of Canada, supporting nuclear engineering and materials applications.

Dr. Di Ciano holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Materials Engineering from the University of Toronto, a Master of Applied Science in Materials Engineering from the University of British Columbia, and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo.

Massimo is known for combining deep technical expertise with a practical, systems-oriented approach to engineering, helping bridge research, product development, and manufacturing execution. He is passionate about advancing the future of materials science and aluminum manufacturing through innovation and collaboration.
